We’re committed to delivering high-quality, low-key endurance events that offer great value for money. Whether you're just stepping into the world of ultras with accessible events like the Stort30, or you're seeking the ultimate test with extreme challenges like the Thames Ring 250, our focus remains the same: excellent organisation, strong community support, and memorable experiences for all abilities.
Challenge Running was founded in 2011 by Lindley Chambers with a single race — the Stort30. After taking part in numerous ultras and noticing a lack of organised trail races in Essex, Lindley set about creating accessible, locally run events. Over the years, Challenge Running has expanded to include six races across the UK, and now also provides expedition leadership, race consultancy, and first aid services through its sister company, Challenge First Aid Ltd. In 2015, Lindley retired from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to focus full-time on growing Challenge Running into a respected name in endurance sport.
At Challenge Running, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality, low-key trail and ultra events that are inclusive, affordable, and professionally organised. From entry-level races like the Stort30 to extreme endurance challenges such as the Thames Ring 250, we support runners of all abilities with outstanding organisation, a welcoming community, and excellent value for money. Our commitment goes beyond race day — from sustainability and fairness to clear policies and genuine respect for every participant, we strive to make your experience the very best it can be.
