Survive day 1
I really liked the course, even though it was very congested the first 12 hours. i easily get a sensory overload. Much better after day 1. Would not send out more than 300 people here. Very friendly organisation, big camping area. Would like to cook my own cup of tea but can work around that with crew. Dogtags are cool! Wish I was still running around. :D Great work by everybody, will be back!
Missed the hot food in the evening which was included in lasts year price.
Thought Steve recording the event last year was great, it was nice to come home and follow it till the end, he made it interesting to watch and you always knew what was going on in terms on laps and runners left ect, missed that this year.
Great event, I will be back
Second time running the SBYU, enjoyed pushing the distance on a slightly easier course.
T-shirt design was much better this year, would love to see the dog-tag for next year in Gold :)
SW
Great Backyard Ultra
First rate pre race information as to expected from Challenge Running. Large campsite with welcoming volunteers/marshalls.
Great course with the "downhill" section at the start, then a small "hill" and many flat sections with a slight slope leading to the finish.
Large number of
runners and there could have been a few more toilets, as at times there were reasonable queues.
Great event
Weather was shocking and thinned the field (myself included), but the event was brilliant. Already signed up for 2026
absolutely brilliant, fun, challenging, and well organised
Brilliant race as always, well organised, so much fun day and night. Food van was brilliant.
Only thing we missed this year was the commentary and music in the village. This made the atmosphere a bit flat in the village. Previous years the commentary helped crews get more involved and helped runners too
Very good event for all abilities.
The only note i would make was the amount of portaloos. Queuing for the portaloos between laps when busting wasnt fun. But on the whole the event was amazing and i had an amazing time.
Very friendly and well organised
Super friendly and supportive vibes. Very well organised- clear pre-event instructions as well as on the day with where to park/set up etc. Only thought for future events would be a couple of extra portaloos for the ladies as between laps there were often reasonable queues for these!
Brilliant event!
Brilliant event which would benefit the pro's and beginners! Paths were wide to accommodate the crowds and well marshalled/signposted. The starting brief could have done with a microphone but apart from that, a very supportive, cool concept of an ultra run!
Excellent organisation as always
Lindley and his team always organise events so well. Clear instructions in advance, good logistics, start-line confirmation of rules, etc. Meticulous planning of the tent-city layout, happy marshals. Everything worked great.
At face value, the course is great - it's a pine forest with many wide trails. If I had two minor niggles, they would be related to the course, however. Firstly, hundreds of people on the course in the first few hours did feel congested - from the start through the initial mile-and-a-bit down to the "hill", and then walking up the hill left limited room for people to do their own pace. Secondly, I hanker after the sheer beauty of the previous years' course at Nettishall Heath - the glades of foxgloves, the ponies, and (this is the key bit for me) the twists and turns of the previous course meant that it was more interesting. I didn't warm to the long stretches of relatively boring flat 'fire trail' gravel roads in this Thetford Forest route.
Will I be back? Not sure.
Thanks Lindley and all - you are super-professionals at these events.
Nice and flat
Good event for beginners. Course was too busy at the start with 350 runners which caused a bit of a bottleneck, for this I would recommend slower runners to have crew support because you won’t get the time you need between laps
Very friendly ultra event
Great venue, beautiful course, met lots of lovely people of all ages.
Robin doing a great job of the media. Sometimes had to queue for toilets which wasn't ideal when pushed for time between laps.
Would definitely recommend!
Well organised, Fun event in a nice location
Lots of positives for the new location; big camping area, facilities like the cafe nearby, discounted parking, food and coffee vans.
Fantastic volunteers as always - thank you!
A few more toilets for the increased capacity would be good to minimise queueing time between loops.
Great event for first timers or experienced runners!
Outstanding
Challenge Running always produce fantastic events and the SBYU is one of the the best ....friendly relaxed with superb volunteers
The pain stops when you stop....
Great event, the antithesis of the running race, stroll around have a chat, eat some food, just make sure you're back within the hour! Oh, and no medal, just the bell and ring of defeat! Go as far as you want or can, no one's going home till you stop!
Fantastic entry into ultramarathon running
The event was really well organised and everyone working at the event was really friendly. In addition to this, the cleanliness of the toilets was impeccable - this is such a big positive when you're taking part in an event so you're not nervous and wasting time cleaning for yourself.
This was my first ultra and the format is a welcoming introduction which contrasts to the intimidating nature of most ultras.
Excellent event
Much better course than 2024 (and accurate distance) although mile markers 2-4 were not in right place. Live stream was very disappointing compared to 2024 in terms of video/sound/commentary quality. Well marshalled and lovely staff/volunteers. Good flat camping area
Nice event
Would be nice to have a skip to leave rubbish.
I miss stephen cousins doing the media
Amazing course and very friendly and well organised crowd.
A brilliant event
I think runners should be told to leave room for people passing (not that they should need to be), many groups walking four or five abreast, especially up the hill. For slower runners who need to get a wiggle on uphill it was very frustrating
